Ordering food to Jantar Mantar feels like the fastest way to support students when you cannot attend. It can help, but only when someone at the site needs the order and can receive it. Viral generosity without coordination can leave riders waiting and volunteers managing piles of perishable food.

Use this checklist before placing an order.

Quick answer

Find a supply request posted within the last 24 hours by a verifiable organizer or attendee. Confirm the collection point and requested item. Send a small prepaid order with clear instructions, add a rider tip where possible and do not publish the recipient’s face.

If you cannot verify current demand, wait. Support is useful only when it reduces work for people at the protest.

Check that the request is current

Crowd size, police access, weather and stock can change within hours. A screenshot from yesterday may still be circulating after the need is filled.

Look for a timestamp, organizer identity and specific quantity. “Send anything to Jantar Mantar” is not enough. A useful request sounds like “sealed water needed at the collection desk near this entrance until 2 p.m.”

Call or message the named coordinator before a large order. Never use a phone number copied through several anonymous accounts to send money or identity documents.

Ask one final question before checkout: “How many units are still needed?” A coordinator who requested 100 water bottles may already have received 80. Matching the remaining quantity prevents waste and makes room for the next useful delivery. Keep a screenshot of the confirmed request and receipt, but remove phone numbers before sharing either publicly.

Choose supplies that travel well

Good options are sealed water, shelf-stable snacks, fruit that will not spoil immediately, ORS packets and requested hygiene products. Avoid meals that leak, melt quickly or require plates and cutlery unless organizers explicitly ask for them.

Dietary variety matters. Ten identical spicy meals may be less useful than simple food people can eat safely. Keep the order small enough for one delivery worker and one volunteer to handle.

Write a usable delivery note

Include the collection point, coordinator’s first name or role, and an instruction not to enter restricted areas. For example:

Prepaid student-support order. Please call the volunteer desk on arrival. If access is blocked, do not wait more than 10 minutes; contact me through the app.

Do not write “give it to anyone inside” if the rider cannot legally or safely reach the crowd. A nearby collection desk is better than an uncertain recipient.

Respect the delivery partner

The rider did not volunteer for the protest. Pay online, tip where available and answer calls quickly. Do not ask them to cross barricades, argue with police, photograph protesters or distribute dozens of individual packets.

If the order cannot be delivered because access changed, accept the platform’s resolution without punishing the rider through a bad rating.

Avoid donation scams

A viral food video can attract impersonators. Check whether the account has a history with the movement, whether the payment name matches the stated organization and whether spending records are public.

Directly ordering a requested item can reduce cash risk, but fake collection points are still possible. Never share an OTP, UPI PIN or remote-control access with someone claiming it is needed to confirm a donation.

Know when to stop

Firsthand posts reported periods of oversupply at Jantar Mantar. If organizers say food is sufficient, believe them. Ask whether water, hygiene products, legal aid or transport support is more useful, or save the money for a later verified need.

Do not redirect perishable food to another group without confirming safe receipt. A well-intended meal can become waste within a few hours outdoors.

Other ways to help

You can archive official notices, translate verified updates, support legal-aid organizations, offer accommodation through trusted personal networks or amplify direct student testimony with consent. People with technical skills can help maintain a timestamped public document separating verified events from rumours.

The point is not to perform support in the most visible way. It is to meet a need students actually have.
